OGUNC KARDELEN grew up in Izmir, Turkey. After studying opera singing at the Dokuz Eylül University, he came to Germany in 2002.
He completed his second singing studies at the Cologne University of Music with Prof. Langshaw and postgraduate studies in singing pedagogy.
Kardelen works as a composer, stage musician and actor at various theatres throughout Germany, including the Comedia in Cologne, the Staatstheater Mainz, the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, the Deutsches Theater Göttingen and the Junges Nationaltheater Mannheim.
He writes and sings songs in his native language for his bands Kent Coda and Ahtapot. He publishes experimental electronic music under the pseudonym "Ønsh".
The cassettes are Kardelen's first connection to music. He uses this love and longing to the creative. Except for the romantic reasons, the sounds coming from cassettes or tapes are unique and not calculable.
They have a warm aesthetic and unique things happen. Cassettes make the banalest sounds interesting. The main character of this 4 piece "Kid" is a 1980s Casio keyboard with a double tapedeck and an SW/FM radio.
Kardelen uses the original sounds from the keyboard, reproduces new sounds and overdubs the playing cassettes. It wasn't a self-evident working process. The two cassette players have different speeds due to their age. The volume cannot be adjusted individually.
Despite their simplicity, all four tracks are very finely calculated and recorded in one take. Except for the volume levels, they are not adjusted. They are spontaneous one-off recordings that you can visit Kardelen's childhood for a few minutes.
